Transit

2026, Art&Brut gallery, Moscow

Transit explores the moment before choice—that brief but tense state in which a person has not yet taken a step but already feels that their previous position has ceased to be stable. The artist turns to the threshold as an image of transition: between inner and outer, familiar and unknown, stillness and action.

The project is based on a series of abstract paintings that form an environment in which the viewer encounters not a ready-made narrative but a situation of delay. What matters here is not the event but the pause before it; not the entrance or exit itself but the state between them.

The painterly compositions are built around the motif of an architectural opening. The artist does not depict doors, windows, or passages literally. Instead, they use simple geometric forms, color planes, and a multilayered surface to create a sense of space that simultaneously opens up and resists the gaze. The painting becomes not an image of a place but an invitation to look at space differently.

The exhibition does not offer the viewer a universal metaphor of a spiritual path. Rather, it shows how abstraction can work with a very concrete human experience: confusion before a choice, slow attention to one’s own state, the need to pass through uncertainty before a direction appears.

Transit invites us to look at painting not as a surface to be deciphered but as a space in which one can linger. The transition here takes place not on the canvas but in perception—at the moment when it becomes noticeable that what stands still is moving, and silence turns out to be a form of movement. In this slowing down, the project’s central question arises: what happens to us at the moment when we stand on the threshold and do not yet know what the next step will be?
